Thursday Aug 10, 2023
On this week's episode, Chad and Jeff bravely welcomed two members of The Cult of Spaceskull, including their ostensible leader, The Red Witch, and one of her minions, Cassidy Scum. They share some details about their "blood cult," as well as attempt to initiate one of the podcast's hosts in the middle of the recording, but they also reveal how they are actually from the future, and that they chose to make and perform music as a means of attracting/boosting membership.
The Cult of Spaceskull can be seen next Saturday, August 19, at Ride It Sculpture Park, with Killing Pixies, Low Lives in High Places, and Burn Maralago.

Music featured in today's episode is by

”Welcome...” - Paige & Ray from ECK!
Thursday Jul 27, 2023
Thursday Jul 27, 2023
Jeff and Chad welcome Ray and Paige, who comprise half of the (newish) post-punk/indie-rock (Christian rock?) band ECK!
Eck is a band that John Szymanski (our podcast landlord) started during the quarantine days, initially with guitarist Ray Thompson. They eventually added drummer Brandon Moss and then steadily recorded their debut album Behold...ECK..., inside the Outer Limits Lounge. Paige Hugelet joined on bass in time for the band's album release party, more than a year ago. Today, we're talking to Paige and Ray about the origin of ECK, as well as their new/forthcoming (soon-to-be-released) second album. We also force Ray, literally, to reveal his desert island album picks!

”If all you’ve got is secrets--whaddya got?” - Jonathan Weier
Thursday Jul 20, 2023
Thursday Jul 20, 2023
This week, Chad and Jeff have a candid chat with Jonathan Weier: musician, lyricist/singer, intermittent provocateur, occassional-pot-hole-fixer and all-in-all supporter of the arts, local music, and all the various creative inhabitants of Hamtramck, (and the greater Detroit area). If that run-on sentence was enough to entice you, please press play.
We discuss Weier's previous work, including the indie-band Dead Bodies, a project he played with Adam Cox and Nic Childers. We also discuss Weier's time during the quarantine days of the recent pandemic, when he started up a talk show and an alter ego known as Bahama Jon.
Listen further for Jon's reverence for the annual Hamtramck Labor Day Festival and his plans for a special birthday party for Hamtramck regular Steve-O!

”Keep Bringin’ Em” - Frank Woodman
Thursday Jul 13, 2023
Thursday Jul 13, 2023
This week, Jeff and Chad welcome Frank Woodman to the upstairs space of the Outer Limits Lounge. Frank is literally a life-long music fan, with plenty of stories to share..., but he's also a singer and guitarist, having recorded and performed with his family band, Woodman, during the mid-late 2000s, and then eventually joining forces with drummer Brandon Moss to form Caveman & Bam Bam, a prehistoric-themed punk/garage rock onslaught.
Frank has been going to shows in-and-around Detroit for 40+ years, and has passed that love of music onto his children (and, inevitably, with time, his grandchildren). We talk about that, but we also talk about the plethora of amazing new bands that have emerged from the Detroit rock scene, Woodman's longtime appreciation of Prince, and a few other odds and ins like ghost peppers, R.E.M. and 70s biker bars.

”Just How Crispy Are you?” - John Salvage of New Twenty Saints
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
Thursday Jul 06, 2023
John Salvage is a Detroit-based singer/songwriter who's been playing music in and out of bands since he was a teenager. He moved here to Detroit from Toledo a little over ten years ago and started performing around the Metro area music scene. In January of 2021, he released a solo album, Coyote Hasten. But Salvage longed to be part of a band again. So, just in time for the pandemic, he "got serious" and formed a proper band, New Twenty Saints, and started to write and rehearse cautiously, eventually putting out one album, right out of quarantine, Nikita (on Outer Limits Lounge Records).

When John sat down with Chad and Jeff, New Twenty Saints were just on the cusp of releasing their 2nd proper full length which wound up being self-titled (and also released on Outer Limits Lounge Records!)
This week, we're talking about punk-rock roots, the Toledo Zoo, getting "serious" (by means of moderation), and a couple of really fun tangents about the Replacements and Community.

”Chupacabra” meets ”Gigaspora” - Jenny Pearson of The Antibuddies
Friday Jun 23, 2023
Friday Jun 23, 2023
Singer/bassist Jenny Pearson of the Antibuddies visits the Outer Limits Lounge to talk with Chad and Jeff about, among many things, playing the bass. The Antibuddies is a punk rock trio that, along with Jenny, includes Cale on guitar/vocals, and Angie on drums. This is a band that formed during the pandemic, and wound up hosting their album release party HERE at the Outer Limits Lounge. We talk about that, along with yodeling in the bathroom, the inclusivity of house shows, tour experiences, the bass lines of the 90s, and so much more.
If you happen to see this in time, you should know that the Antibuddies are playing at Small's Bar this Saturday, June 24.

Kelly Jean Caldwell - ”A Lot of Twang”
Friday Jun 16, 2023
Friday Jun 16, 2023
This week, Chad and Jeff are chatting with singer/songwriter/guitarist & flutist Kelly Jean Caldwell. Kelly is the co-owner of the Outer Limits Lounge and thus one of our podcast landlords, but she also writes, records and performs some amazing music, with the Kelly Jean Caldwell Band, as well as with Aran Ruth in WICCANS and her newest band, Wild Shape.
We talk about a lot of things on today's podcast, including lyric-writing, "twang," Ann Arbor, and the potentially haunted origins of our recording space.
