J. Navarro On: The Boreouts, Suicide Machines, Traitors & "Trade Secrets"

This week, Chad and Jeff are interviewing J. Navarro! And... since our laptop crashed, we actually recorded the whole thing on a 4-track reel-to-reel, which feels appropriately punk rock for such a guest.

J., Jay, or Jason Navarro has been in the Suicide Machines for more than 30 years and they're still highly active to this day--they literally just released a new single, which you can sample in this episode! We also discuss new bands like The Boreouts, who blend garage punk and soul, and The Traitors, a ska/punk band in which Navarro is involved with Eric Abbey (of Detroit Riddim Crew). All that, and so much more, with legends and lore! Tune in!

Dori - More Than Songs About Phones

This week, we're welcoming Zoe Hecker back to the podcast, talking about a new band: DORI 

Or is it Dori? Dori! This group had their first show in March of 2025, at the annual Blowout! Zoe and her partner Kolton Sarate, who plays organ and synth (amongst other things) in the group, joined us to chat about the band's origins, their first recoridngs, and their future plans! Shout-out to Taylor, Gordon, and newest member Walter, who couldn't make it to this party, but you can see all of them THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at the annual Storh Down weekend music marathon happening at the OUTER LIMITS LOUNGE! 

 

Carbon Decoy - Crush The Sun

This week, Chad and Jeff are chatting with the psychedelic/stoner-rock power trio known as Carbon Decoy, just in time for the release of their 2nd full-length album, Crush The Sun! 

Casey Rowe, Jared Jordan, and Earl Mudd are hanging out and talking about their roots, from the rural climes near Jackson, MI, to memorable shows performed around the Metro region, as well as exuberant remarks upon how the local music scene welcomed them with relatively and disarmingly open arms. This week, we're chatting with LZR, or Johnny LZR, or LZR Violet, or, lzr.violet, either way, they're all the same person and that person is here to talk about their musical journey, from early days of skateboarding, to the formation of Human Eye with Timmy Vulgar and stints with The Go and Conspiracy of Owls. We also get in to the story behind a slew of newer projects along the way, including Brood X, Pink Spit, and more! PLUS!! Ménage Detroit: Would You Say We're in Love!?

This week, we've got an episode where Chad and Jeff chat with Joey and Tex, the duo comprising the lo-fi garage-rock group known as Ménage Detroit! Now, there are more than a few references to 4/20, the infamous stoner date of Gregorian Calendar, since that's the literal day that we recorded this episode! We hear the origin story of Joey and Tex as a couple, as collaborators, and some of their recent adventures, along with some of Joey's other projects, like The Hand and Toeheads! Tune in! Oh, and we also talk about vampires, milk, mono-recording, and more! 

 

From Here To There: Nadine Chronopoulos (DENO)

This week, Nadine Chronopoulos joins us to talk about her band DENO, as well as her new EP titled OM TARA / From Here To There! Nadine is also performing on Sunday at 27th Letter Books, for an event celebrating the establishment of a physical space for Shelley Salant's Gingko Records, a local label that Shelly (Shells) has been facilitating for years, but this weekend marks the start of a set location, inside the expansive and versatile space at Michigan Avenue and 25th Street!  

Nadine, meanwhile, has so many stories to share about her upbringing in Greece, her previous band, Milk Bath, and the development of DENO! Tune in!
