Melody Baetens, also known as Melody Malosh, is a dining and entertainment reporter for The Detroit News, where she has worked for over 20 years, earning the position of Restaurant Critic in 2019. Along the way, and particularly throughout the 2010s, Melody diligently covered the local music scene, bringing indie and underground bands to the pages of the Detroit News. FEN FEN - In Yer Sights

The four members of FEN FEN decalred The Outer Limits Lounge to be "the greatest venue in the world" and "most comfortable place to play!" Well, damn it, it's also a comfortable place to host a podcast--particularly when you're talking about loud, aggressive, frenetic, fast-tempo music! Ferocious music, yes, but Luke, Josh, Ben, and Jake are exceedingly affable, laid-back, chill dudes who just wanna talk about the nuances of their recording process, the lyrics, and their west side (of the state) origins! They have a new album coming out this summer titled IN YER SIGHTS, and you can hear all about it! Press play!

Matthew Smith - Our Pod Will Change The World

Saturday May 24, 2025
Welcome to Season 3 of Outer Limited! We're back! Join us for our conversation with Matthew Smith, founder of Outrageous Cherry, current leader of the Matthew Smith Group, and overall prolific songwriter! We run through the chronology of Outrageous Cherry up into the late 2010s, while also enjoying an array of anecdotes about the surrealism of a band, or any musician, simply existing within the music industry. Oh, and Matt also performed two songs for us! It was late winter, and the heaters were on upstairs, so if it gets fuzzy at points--just remember we're in a bar!

Liz Warner - Alternate Take(s) & Interview Tabs
Thursday Dec 12, 2024
Thursday Dec 12, 2024
It's the finale of Season 2 of Outer Limited, with a very special guest: Liz Warner, host of Altnerate Take, heard Thursday evenings at 8pm on WDET. Liz Warner has been long-known to late-night Detroit audiences as Liz Copeland and is an award-winning multimedia journalist specializing in audio. She started in Detroit as a nightly live radio producer and host on NPR affiliate WDET in 1995. On a continual quest to get closer to the meaning behind the music, and we certainly dig into that on THIS episode.
Liz has also been credited as a music writer and editor, television host, event and exhibition curator, DJ, and event presenter and host. Warner’s recent radio shows have been broadcast on artist-centric Los Angeles broadcaster dublab.
Currently, as stated, she's hosting a new iteration of Alternate Take, starting back in early February of this year. Cohost, Jeff Milo, is now a colleague of hers, and there's a lot of discussion around the resurgance of music programming on WDET, started by new programming director Adam Fox. We also talk about, just, the skill of interviewing, the fundamentals of art journalism, and the fun of curating music!

Chloe Drallos - The Rosy Crucifixion
Thursday Nov 21, 2024
Thursday Nov 21, 2024
Singer/songwriter and filmmaker (and painter) Chloe Drallos is hanging out with Chad and Jeff this week to talk about her recently released short film, "The Rosy Crucifixion," born out of a music video for a track from her latest album, Earthly Delights, under the moniker of Zilched. Drallos has been writing, recording, and performing as Zilched, either solo or with a full band, for nearly 7 years now, with a handful of releases, plenty of shows, and even some touring under her belt. But, this month marks the beginning of a longed-for hiatus for that project as Drallos begins to focus more on her film work! Drallos performs TOMORROW at the LOVING TOUCH for the For The Periods benefit!
The Rosy Crucifixion is a short film written and directed by Chloe Drallos, released in October 2024.
Originally sharing its title with the penultimate track on Zilched’s album Earthly Delights, the film has been re-edited into a full-length music video for the single. https://youtu.be/tPoJe1R7sQY?si=Ro6EW2W3Zqdtd0zq

Wednesday Nov 13, 2024
Wednesday Nov 13, 2024
This week, Eric Allen from Loose Koozies swings by to tell us about his band's forthcoming album, Passing Through You. Eric and Jeff go waaay back, to the late 00's, when they were both writers at a now defunct local music magazine, and they've been friends ever since. But, we're also having a splendid conversation about both Eric's own journey through music and the ongoing journey of Loose Koozies, which also features Pete Ballard, Erin Davis, Nick German, and Audrey Moran.
Their release party is coming up on December 7 at..., where else, but: The Outer Limits Lounge!

Featured at the end of the episode is the lead single from Passing Through You, "Wobbly Wheels."
